Question: 1 year ago, I crushed a vertebrae in a fall. Unknowing of the seriousness of the injury, I rode a lawn mower around for a couple hours. The next day, I had onset of several problems. 1. extreme discomfort in urinating 2. throbbing pain in my left testicle 3. a burning, tingling numbness in my left thigh and groin area 4. impotence 5. swollen and distended abdomen All of the symptoms except the distended abdomen have gotten better and I am able to cope. I have been tested and treated for several intestinal disorders to no avail. My swelling has not improved at all. Is a part of the back injury? Most Dr.s are telling me no. The onset was simultaneous with my other symptoms and very sudden. At the same exact time as the other symptoms, my waist increased 2 inches.

Brief Answer:
Should be abdominal fat and gas.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can understand your concern.
When your abdominal ultrasound or CT/ MRI scans are not showing any abnormality, then there's no possibility of any pathology inside it.
You've not written what intestinal surgeries were done. But after that you seem to have gained in weight. It could be a lack of exercise and all the extra calories just got deposited
as fat. Gaseous abdomen is another factor. These two conditions are also seen clearly, on your scan.
You are welcome to send it here, for an expert opinion.
Wish you well.

I am very aware weight gain as fat. This was over night onset of swelling and a larger girth. I continue to exercise since my injury but the pressure in my abdomen makes most activities less pleasant. I have had ultrasounds, ct scans, stomach emptying test, contrast ct scans, and xray and mylogram on my back. I am unable to have a MRI due to a aortic valve replacement because a childhood condition. the only abdominal surgery was a splenectomy in 1977. I want to know if my back injury could be the source of my abdominal swelling.

Brief Answer:
weight gain has occurred only after fall.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
As all your reports are normal, I would not link this swelling directly to back injury. In fact with all reports normal, no other reason other than lack of exercise, can be attributable.
This is assuming all your blood tests like lipid profile,RBS,creatinine,LFT,throid profile are normal.

Hope your dietician has advised you with a diet schedule.
Wish you well.
