Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: I am having issues with bowel movements for about 2 months now. I started to go less or not as big as usual then it went to thin stools then thinner then nothing. I used dulcolax about 10 times and 4 magnesium citrates over the months. when i use those most of the stuff comes out or a decent ammount, but nothing returns to normal after that. I had a bloackage about 9 months ago but the magnesium citrates did the job. Now all i am able to do every 2 days is literally like have a small mudslide when i go. so it just looks like a small pile of mud. i have been on probiotics ,magnesium , vitamins, nothing works to get me to be able to go normal again. I had a physical and a CT scan the last time i went to the doctor and everything was normal except i had a small part in my lower back on the T something vertabra i think. was the only thing that showed up. im only having a tiny bowel movement every 2 days about which is only ever a mudslide nothing else. Any ideas on what to do with this?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
You are reporting to have bowel movement issues like thin stools or nothing.
Your symptoms may be related with :
- IBS and lower fiber diet
- sedentary life ( low physical activity)
- large bowel issues like tumor( rarely)
- thyroid issue like lower thyroid function
This is why I suggest to do :
- colonoscopy( this exam is more accurate than CT to explore large bowel)
- t3, t4 and TSH level
Meantime I would suggest to :
- use plenty of water
- use vegetables and fresh fruits
- use olive oil 2-3 teaspoons per day
- increase physical activity
- avoid unnecessary stress
- continue to use dulcolax
- avoid alcohol and smoking
- use prune and kiwis
Hope it was helpful to you !
