Question: I often wake up with what looks like swollen sinus. I have them examined & xrayed & they are clear. I also have no congestion. What could it be? I have enclosed 3 photos of the swelling plus 1 normal for comparison

Brief Answer:
facial allergy/hypothyroidism-needs blood tests.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and the uploaded images. I understand your concerns that you are having swollen face. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any head-ache or running nose ?
Is your swollen face associated with itching ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

As per your clinical details and the images, it appears to be due to facial allergy or due to hormonal imbalance.

In my opinion, you need to evaluate with blood tests (thyroid profile, absolute eosinophilic count, serum IgE).

Meantime, take plenty of fluids (correction of dehydration), deficiency of vitamin C also presents with puffy face (take fruits with citric acid).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Yes. your thyroid tests are normal.

Kindly do routine blood investigations to rule out the exact cause ( complete blood picture with haemoglobin percentage, complete urine examination and allergy tests).

Nutritional deficiencies (iron or folic acid ) also causes facial puffiness.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
