Question: My daughter is 20 years old. Her right breast has always been bigger then her left breast, i would say by about 1/2 of a bra size, she still is only a B cup size. Took her to doctor when she was 18, they said that this was normal. She now says that it is sore to touch, nipple area and whole breast is swollen, hardened some, and painful to the touch. Really noticing this today, she said. RIght breast only. Should we be concerned about this? She is in XXXXXXX Nebraska, in college. Under alot of stress and drinks alot of caffeine. Wondering if she needs to get an ultrasound? She said lymph nodes under armpit are not sore. Thank you Tracy

Brief Answer:
Seems to be pubertal changes with superimposed infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello, welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for trusting us for your health related queries.
I guess your concern is asymmetry in the size of breast and tender-swollen right breast.
When your daughter was 18 years old asymmetry in breast is quite expected, its because of pubertal changes. It usually settles over a period of time. But in this case i guess the asymmetry is masked by the superimposed changes of right breast by means of swelling, pain, tenderness etc.All these signs points towards the infection of soft connective tissues present inside the breast.
In my view pubertal changes along with infection might have caused asymmetry in size or might have exaggerated the already present asymmetrical changes.Whatever,it has to be worked up.
Advice:-
1.Visit a nearby general surgeon to work up the case and find out the what could be the cause.
2.Ultrasound can be done.
