Posted on Tue, 3 Jan 2017
Question: I have red painful and somewhat swollen feet and hands. I had blood work done yesterday and it is not diabetes. My A1C is within the normal range. My liver enzymes are high ALT 79. A year ago my liver enzymes were normal and 6 months prior to that they were high??? Not much of a drinker. Triglycerides are in normal range. Hands extremely sensitive to heat. This has all happened with the last week or so.

Brief Answer:
Lipitor probable cause for increased ALT!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed your information and lipitor is the probable cause of these symptoms. I will suggest that you discuss this further with your doctor to see where the ALT numbers were before you started treatment. This will help in evaluating the increase and making further decisions about possible switch or not.

Also, did you get your thyroid function evaluated by doing a TSH? If this wasn’t done, it is always important we do it when a client complaints of heat intolerance. Other symptoms of a thyroid disorder are diarrhea, sweat palms, irritability, etc.

I hope this helps. Wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me for more information and clarifications if need be.
