What Can Cause Visible Vein Exerting Pressure On The Eye?

After work I noticed a thin raised line that I think might be a small vein coming from my temple area toward my right eye. There is some pressure behind that same eye. It is not tender to touch, but the pressure in my eye has me concerned. I am a 29 year old male that works outside. I do not have high blood pressure, but I do have half a thyroid, although it hasn t been giving me any trouble. There is heart disease and diabetes and thyroid disorders in my family history, but I have not shown any signs of these.

Hi,

Noted your specific history of a visible vein from temple area towards right eye with some pressure behind the same eye, not hypertensive, hemi-thyroidectomy already done but thyroid function is normal.
The commonest cause of pain behind the right eye can be local like some vascular malformation, or a tumor causing raised blood supply.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
MRI of the eye and brain with angiography to confirm or rule out any vessel related disease or disorder.
If found to be positive then the treatment accordingly.
Also to think about a condition called vasculitis.
Take an opinion of an Ophthalmologist and ENT Surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
