Brief Answer:
Hand elevation withan anti inflammatory would be appropriate.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef, a general surgeon answering you query.

If I were your son's doctor, I would advise the following:
1) Keep the bitten hand elevated with a sling to reduce dependent edema, and pain
2) Vaccinate the boy with anti Tetanus vaccine if not yet vaccinated.
3) Prescribe him with some anti inflammatory syrup to relieve his pain and swelling due to inflamamtion.
4) The use of an anti biotic would depend on the progression of the wound with any signs of an infection.
5) Unless it was some kind of poisonous bite, the above regiment should give relief to your son's hand, otherwise if the swelling increases or any other problem, you are required to show him in the ER of your nearest hospital.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your son's problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
