Suggest Treatment For Stomach Pain, Diarrhea And Profuse Sweating

default

Question: I've had about 3 separate episodes that occur late at night (around midnight or so) after going to bed, feeling fine, not eating anything unusual only to wake with horrible stomach pain, which worsens after about a half hour. It turns into a feeling of needing to use the bathroom, either diarrhea or feeling so nauseous - that I'm not sure if I'm going to vomit as well.... this is accompanied by horrible pain in general over the entire abdomen (worse than cramps), profuse sweating and chilled all at the same time. This lasts about 25 minutes or so (unbearable). It finally passes after I've had a bowel movement, followed by diarrhea. It happened last night and two times before that in the past month. Not sure what to make of it. What does this sound like?

Brief Answer:
Likely viral

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. One episode of diarrhea in a month self resolving with no significant history of weight loss or fever or blood or mucus or any undigested food in stools is innocuous and nothing to worry about.

The most common cause of diarrhea is a virus that infects the gut. The infection usually lasts for two days and is sometimes called "intestinal flu" or "stomach flu." Diarrhea may also be caused by:

Infection by bacteria (the cause of most types of food poisoning)
Infections by other organisms
Eating foods that upset the digestive system
Allergies to certain foods
Medications
Radiation therapy
Diseases of the intestines (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis)
Malabsorption (where the body is unable to adequately absorb certain nutrients from the diet)
Hyperthyroidism
Some cancers
Laxative abuse
Alcohol abuse
Digestive tract surgery
Diabetes
Competitive running
Diarrhea may also follow constipation, especially for people who have irritable bowel syndrome.

you can treat it with an over-the-counter medicine. Common brand names include Pepto-Bismol, Imodium A-D, and Kaopectate, which are available as liquids or tablets. Follow the instructions on the package.

In addition, you should drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of fluid per day. Choose fruit juice without pulp, broth, or soda (without caffeine). Chicken broth (without the fat), tea with honey, and sports drinks are also good choices. Instead of drinking liquids with your meals, drink liquids between meals. Drink small amounts of fluids frequently.

if the problem persists or recurs consult your gastroenterologist for further management.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
