Suggest Treatment For Stabbing And Throbbing Pain In Lower Back And Hips

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Nov 2014
Question: I have recently been experiencing a stabbing and throbbing pain in my lower back (tailbone area) and hips. It started in my back, then moved to my left hip. It then went back to my lower back and now is in my right hip. It feels like someone is stabbing a skewer into my nerves. The pain isn't there all the time. Doctors have referred me to orthopedics, but they have a 3 month waiting list. The pain can be really bad, sometimes I can't bear weight on my leg. It also sometimes feels like my leg is going to give out.
Do you have any idea of what this could be? I am only 21 years old.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The suffering could be because of lesion at hip or nerve related. My suggestion would be -
1.Get xray pelvis with both hip.
2.MRI lumbar and sacral spine.
Are you able to sit for prolong time and what makes the pain worse?
The pain at tail bone is called coccygodynia, it gets better with sitz bath. You may have prescription only drug pregablin to relieve pain.
Looking forward to your reply.
Take care

I can sit down while in pain, but it sometimes causes the pain to move up my back.
I haven't noticed what makes the pain worse. It usually starts out as a throbbing pain, then over a short space of time turns into a stabbing pain. I don't do anything to bring the pain on, it just appears.
Its not there all the time. But can come on a couple of times a day.
Are lesions on the hip or nerve related problems easy to treat, or will I be stuck taking painkillers?
I live in the UK, is it possible to request an xray or MRI, or does my doctor have to make that decision?

Thank you very much for responding.

Hello
It's good to see you.
I have gone through your reply carefully and I may assure you we will be alright once we have reached a diagnosis. You have to find out regarding way to get x-ray and MRI done beside blood test like complete blood count with ESR.
Do you have pain more in the morning, when you get up?
Does the pain improve with movement?
Wishing you good health.
Take care
