Suggest Treatment For Soreness In The Upper Thigh And Knee

Question: Hi, I tripped and fell into my pool this morning. I scraped my left shin and instep and banged the outside of my left knee before falling into it. Not only is that area of the knee sore, but my upper left thigh is too. Maybe it got twisted or something. I have been loading up on Advil. I don't believe anything is broke, but the soreness is more intense hours later. What do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Visit a doctor. Apply ice compress.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

In case of such a fall, the injury could be either a bony injury or a soft tissue injury. Bony injuries like fracture are gross and had one occurred, you would not have been able to get up thereafter. Since I assume that not to be the case, the next thing i.e. soft tissue injury is what seems to have happened. Soft tissues consist of muscles, tendons and ligaments - which one cannot make out in an X ray. But muscles can get strained or torn while ligaments can get sprained or torn. In case of knee there are important ligaments that could be damaged. A clinical examination is essential and I would strongly insist you to viist a doctor for the same.

Hot compress alternating with cold compress should provide relief.
