Question: My 11 year old has welts on her neck & leg & has a sore throat. We went to her pediatrician yesterday & got a negative strep test result. Her pediatrician thought it was just sinus drainage.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Your child has a sore throat with draining sinuses. It is likely to be due to a bacterial infection even if it is not due to Streptococcus and treatment with antibiotics might be required in addition to drainage of the sinuses. However, viral infections like infectious mononucleosis is also a possibility. Please be patient, it should resolve in 5-7 days. Gurgling with lukewarm water is the mainstay of treatment and should provide relief. You need to give paracetamol (Crocin DS) to bring down the temperature, if raised. Giving some antiallergic like cetirizine should help.
