Brief Answer:
Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux/acid reflux disease...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

After going through the symptoms described by you, I do feel, you could be having Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux secondary to the acid reflux disease.

Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR), occurs when there is back flow of the acid from our stomach up to the level of the voice box (larynx) and throat (pharynx). LPR can occur during the day or night.

When the acid regurgitates from the stomach into the throat, it causes burning of the mucosa followed by edema of the same. Excessive secretions are produced in order to reduce the inflammation and edema. Hence, the presence of edema with the associated secretions causes above symptoms described by you.

LPR is generally treated with a combination of dietary & life style modifications and medications.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water.
2. Do steam inhalation 2-3 times a day, for at least 2 minutes.
3. Try taking medicines such as:
a. Proton pump inhibitors - to reduce the production of acid in the stomach
b. Prokinetics - such as domperidone or metochlopramide hcl
c. A mucolytic such as bromhexine or ambroxol
4. Exercise regularly
5. Avoid or minimize the following in the diet:
• Alcohol
• Fried/Fatty Foods
• Spicy Foods
• Citrus
• Caffeinated Beverages/Carbonated Beverages

Hope with the above measures you will get better; revert back to me if you any follow-up queries.
