Suggest Treatment For Sore Irritated Throat Upon Talking After Injury

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Nov 2015
Question: I had a direct blow to the throat (tripped/fell into object) about 6 months ago. immediately following impact, it felt like there was a piece of cartlidge or flap hanging. I lost my voice for approx 5 weeks. It literally felt like there was a dager through my throat. I went to the dr about one month after and had a scope done (through the nose). They said my vocal chords were fine. However, 6 months later I have irritation and if I talk alot, by the end of the day, my throat is very soar/irritated. It feels like there is nodule on the back side of my throat. I can feel 'something' there that's irritating my throat. I called back the Dr's office about 2 months after but was made to feel like it was all in my head... "the dr said your vocal chords were fine.' was asked if I was drinking enough water, . to which I was extremely irritated. what is the best course of action to take, an MRI or ?

Brief Answer:
Stroboscopy, MRI + CT Neck / Larynx.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The best time to get this imaging done was at the time of injury. This would have identified the problem areas.

2. Now, it is better to get a Stroboscopy and an MRI + CT Neck / Larynx done.

3. If there is no thyroid cartilage damage them it is likely that thd force was deflected above or below. Look for cricoid damage or in the adjacent spine.

4. If the imaging and examination is within normal limits, then you have developed Chronic Laryngitis. This can be treated with medication.

5. Upload these test results with images for further
treatment options.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
