Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of SMZ-TMP DS

Question: my 60 yr old lady friend started the first dose of sulfamethhoxazole tmp ds today and this evening she is unusually sleepy and feel as if she is going to vomit. She feels to have a high fever. She was prescribed the med by a pulmonary dr. for pneumonia symptoms. What should I do?

it sounds like she may be having a reaction to the medication. She may have some type of allergy.

If she is continuing to have symptoms of lethargy or sleeping is in addition to the high fever I would recommend that you take her to the local emergency department for evaluation.

A brief valuation a medical professional the ability to treat her symptoms including the nausea and fever and possibly start her on a different type of antibiotic to adequately treat her pneumonia.

I feel that since she is having significant symptoms that this would warrant any valuation as soon as possible.
