Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Levipil
Question: Hello Doctor,
My father aged 75 years, week ago he one morning still on the bed suddenly shown seizures type of symptom in the sleep itself. for about 20 minutes, he is not in our conscious. But after 20 minutes he regained and everything is absolutely normal . However we have undergone all the test EEG, ECG, MRI but all reports are negative there is no sign of disturbance. HOwever doctor prescribed Levipil-500mg morning and evening. After 10 days he is not comfortable with the medicine due to some minor side effects, stomach bloating, fatigue, dull etc. ARe these common for this drug. What do you suggest. Seizure is a clinical diagnosis and treatment is given even in absence of any positive Mri or eeg reports.
The drug levetiracetam can sometimes cause agitation, decreased sleep, memory problem and concentration deficit. Fatigue and dullness may also be due to drug. Bloating of abdomen may be due to other cause like dyspepsia or indigestion. Usually the side effects decrease in few days but if persists then other available drugs can be tried like Valproate, phenytoin.
