Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Dexamethasone Injection

Question: I had a dexamethasone injection for the second time 4/12/16 (i also had one 12/18/15). The psych effects have been horrible for me: anxiety and crippling depression. My doctors are aware. How long will it take for these psych effects to lessen??? It has been 5 weeks now! I have heard all kinds of time frames so I am really concerned.

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

Psychiatric side effects after systemic steroid are very common. They should stop after stopping the steroid. If not, specific treatment according to symptoms is necessary.

Already 5 weeks have been completed and your problem is continued. In my opinion there is need of specific treatment for depression and anxiety. Dose of ativan can be increased. Specific anti depressant from SSRI or SNRI group should be started to curtail these symptoms. Please ask your doctor about the same.
