Posted on Fri, 20 Nov 2015
Question: I've been having intense vaginal itching for about a week. there is no discharge or foul smell. I've tried monistat, and hydrocortisone for feminine itch and nothing seems to help. I don't have sex so it can't be anything sexual transmitted. what could this be?

Brief Answer:
Could be dryness.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Since there is no discharge or foul smell, it is less likely to be an infection.
Do you have redness ?
It could be simple allergic itching.
Does any of this figure - a new tampon, talc, soap, gel, cleanser, sanitary pad, undergarment ??
IF not, it could be simple dryness leading to an itch.
You can try a simple moisturizer such as Vaseline petroleum jelly.
Do not self medicate, as it may worsen matters.
If nothing works, an internal evaluation and vaginal swab by an OB - GYN should be done before starting any form of treatment.
And yes, are your cycles regular ?
Have you had such issues in the past ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.
