Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat, Sinus Congestion And Pain

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Dec 2016
Question: I woke up with a severe sore throat, sinus congestion and pain. I have a cough and I am beginning to feel it in my chest. I am more suseptible to infections as I am on a low dose of revlimid. I had a bone marrow transplant because of a diagnosis of multiple myeloma. I am still in remission. I know this is probably too much information, but I am not sure what antibiotic to go on. Because of my situation, I don't usually wait to take an antibiotic.
Thanks, Liz

Brief Answer:
You need to get your blood tested.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Your ailment as well as its treatment is likely to have made your immunity dip. In that case you are more prone to viral infections. The mentioned symptoms are likely to be a result of certain viral infections where antibiotics are of no use. I would insist you to go for a blood count. Antibiotics would be needed only if the total leucocyte count is elevated and there is relative neutrophilia. If such a finding is not present, antibiotics are not likely to be useful.

Steam inhalation and gurgling with lukewarm water are going to be the mainstay of your treatment. Irrespective of the treatment the condition is likely to take 5-7 days to resolve.

Let me know if I could help further.
