Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Spot On Lower Back

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Dec 2015
Question: Hi doc, I'm 61 and worked all my life with no problems till about 2 years ago. (In hind sight, I realize I've had this coming for a while. I started using different chairs and balls to sit on). I started with burning pain while sitting or lying down. I've got a severe sore spot on my right low back. I cannot sit without pain. Car ride is extremely painful. After doing a car trip or even some minor activity, I pay severely for it when I try to lie down. Nights are horrible. I can just lie on my stomach with little pain or discomfort. I've had 3 surgeries in 18 months (incl right SIJ fused) but still having this pain. I have a misaligned and degenerated pubis symphysis (sp?) What could be the reason for this? My quality of life is bad. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Nerve root entrapment. Please upload MRI. Take Gabapentin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Do you have weakness of your lower limbs?

Do you have Diabetes?

Do you have Ankylosing spondylitis ?

Since you have had rhizotomies and spinal injections, I presume that you have a possible lumbar canal stenosis with nerve root entrapment.

I suggest you get an MRI done of your spine, get tested for Diabetes.

You can take Tablet Gabapentin once at night for 1 month, as this can help with the burning sensation.

Also Methylcobalamine injections will help with nerve regeneration.

Kindly respond to my queries for me to be in a better position to help you.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
