Brief Answer:
Most likely due to musculoskeletal pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but do not worry. Most likely reason for such acute onset, well localized and non radiating pains in this age group are musculoskeletal pain due to sprain or spasms.
Constipation can aggravate such pains.

I would recommend you to take following measures to help him out:
- Use a local analgesic such as diclofenac spray or gel and give a massage.
- Ibuprofen will be useful. Continue thrice daily for next 2 days.
- Give lactulose or cremaffin for constipation if present.
- avoid heavy weight lifting for a few days

In case the above mentioned measures do not help, then visit an orthopedic surgeon for proper clinical examination and definitive treatment.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
