Question: I woke up last night with pain in both jaws (tendons - joints) which "traveled" over the next hour to my right eye (eye ball), which then traveled (after another 2 hours) into my right temple (headache), and then traveled to the right - front of my skull. It will not go away.

Brief Answer:
Very sorry for this terrible situation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your question and I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this painful nuisance. Let's see what we can do to help give you some suggestions to get you on the road to relief.

I believe that if this is a FIRST TIME ever type of headache of this nature that you will benefit from having a full blown examination by a HEADACHE AND FACIAL PAIN expert as several types of headache come to mind. If you are experiencing symptoms of NAUSEA, VOMITING, LIGHT or SOUND sensitivity along with these pains then, you are likely suffering from a migraine type of presentation. If there are no symptoms of N/V or sensitivity to light or sound then, you may still be suffering from a MIGRAINE, however, it may be a MIGRAINE EQUIVALENT or ATYPICAL MIGRAINE.

However, what gives me mild cause to be concerned in your story is your presentation of JAW pain/discomfort that travels to the same sided eyeball and TEMPLE. If there has been any degree of BLURRING of vision, DOUBLE vision, BEADING of the skin over the right temple....EXTREME sensitivity of the skin over the right temple, etc. then, my recommendation is that you get an appointment within the next 24-48 hrs. with either an OPHTHALMOLOGIST (NOT optometrist), a NEUROLOGIST, or if neither of those 2 specialists are available you consider an Urgent Care Center or ER visit in order to rule out an entity called GIANT CELL ARTERITIS or TEMPORAL ARTERITIS. My suspicion is rather LOW for that diagnosis but please remember that I am operating off of very limited information that you're supplying and I do not have any ability to examine you....so I must necessarily raise red flags when they exist...no matter how remote the possibility is in my opinion that you actually have such a diagnosis.

Another possibility of what's happening to you could be something called TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DYSFUNCTION which is essentially an architectural problem occurring in patients whose mandibles (jaws) are not opening and closing probably which eventually overstimulates cranial nerves of both a motor and sensory nature and can result in radiating pains that could be interpreted as headaches or consequences of headaches. For this type of problem one would need to get an appoointment with either a dentist or a maxillofacial surgeon.

Also, careful not to OVERUSE the Excedrin Migraine or Sudafed medications which means that you should not be using more than several of the Excedrin even within a 2-3 day period and I would encourage to use NONE of the sudafed for this problem.

If I've adequately answered your questions could you do me a huge favor by CLOSING THE QUERY and being sure to include some fine words of feedback along with a 5 STAR rating if you feel my suggestions have helped? Again, many thanks for posing your question and please let me know how things turn out.
