Suggest Treatment For Severe Ear Infection And Fever In A Child

Question: Hi Doctor,

My kid is having ear infection and is having ear pain with fever. We met doctor yesterday however would like to know if there is any ear drops that can be given to him to subside his pain.

Try lidocaine drops

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I understand that your chuld has ear infection leading on to ear pain.
Your doctor must have seen the eardrum and prescribed appropriate medicines.
To relieve pain I usually advice lidocaine ear drops 2 drops thrice daily till pain settles.
Warning :
1.This has to be prescribed by your doctor.
2. This drops can be used only if eardrum is intact which needs ear examination. It should be administered in perforated eardrum which xan sometimes happen in ear infection .

My advice will be to recheck with your doctor if it is safe to give lidocaine drops in your childs case.
