Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea When Diagnosed With Severe Spinal Stenosis

Posted on Wed, 1 Jul 2015
Question: I've been diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis and bulging disc at L5-S1 and right exiting nerve is being impinged. I had bilateral L4/5 and L5/1 facet joint injections two weeks ago from which I've felt no relief. I've developed severe diahorrea in the last 36 hours could it be related?

Brief Answer:
probably not related

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If the diarrhea had occurred right after the steroid injections I might have thought that it was related but since the injections were two weeks ago it is unlikely. You probably have had some bad food or you may have a viral gastroenteritis. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid caffeine and alcohol (they are dehydrating). Eat what ever food you normally eat as long as you are not vomiting. If the diarrhea does not resolve in the next 2-3 days you should probably see a doctor and have some stool studies done for stool culture and parasite panel. There is a severe colitis that you can get from antibiotic exposure so if you have had any antibiotics in the last 3 months make sure your doctor is aware of that.
