Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea And Hearing Of Sounds In Stomach
Just to let you know, I do have an appointment with my internist tomorrow. I am having severe diarrhea that is uncontrollable and pretty violent. It is yellow/green in color and I can hear the fluids in my colon bubble and gurgle loudly. I also feel nauseated and bloated. I saw my internist when this occurred about 3mos. ago and was referred to a specialist, who repeated what my doctor said, that it must be a bug. My stool was tested, but not for Giardiasis, so that is what the gastro doctor said it must have been. I have been diagnosed with Diverticulitis and I don't know if this is related. My Mother suffers from colitis and stomach issues abound in my family. Not sure what direction I should be going in and wondered if you had any suggestions.
diverticulitis can cause this symptom
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Chronic diarrhea refers to diarrhea that lasts 4 weeks or more.
If the stool was not tested for the most common parasites such as giardiasis then it should be repeated because infection is one of the causes of chronic diarrhea.
The other causes are: (1) irritable bowel syndrome ( IBs)
(2)inflammatory bowel disease (crohns or ulcerative colitis). These would be seen on imaging and would likely have been seen when the diverticular disease was diagnosed, if imaging done recently.
(3)hormone related disease such as hyperthyroidism- high levels of thyroid hormone can cause this symptoms
(4)intolerance to particular foods (eg lactose, though can occur with other foods as well) and side effects of medications are also causes
(5)diverticulitis is inflammation/infection of the diverticula.
These are 'out pockets' in the colon. It can cause change in bowel habits and diarrhea is some persons.
Would normally be associated with abdominal pain as well. It is treated by resting the bowel and antibiotics.
If this has been done and the diverticulitis is thought to be gone then a repeat stool analysis is needed,
Summary: (1)different possible causes
(2)may need repeat stool test for infection
(3) if no recent imaging , would need repeating
(4)blood test for thyroid hormone
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
