Hello XXXXXXX

I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly.

There isn't much we can do about the nose running and congestion other than a decongestant such as pseudoephedrine, but I am concerened about the continued fever and the noises you hear from your breathing.

If there is no sign of improvement (no lowering of fever or improved breathing) after 48 hours on the antibiotic, I recommend going back to a doctor or urgent care and making sure that they do a chest X-ray.

You may also need a stronger cough suppressant such as something with codeine in it if the Tessalon Pearls aren't enough.

It takes antibiotics a couple of days to start to see effects, usually. If this is a bacterial infection, it may be resistant to the antibiotic you were given, or your infection may be from a virus, in which case an antibiotic won't work.

If your throat is very sore, make sure when you go in that they do a throat swab to rule out strep, too.

So - if it's been 48 hours and you are doing no better at all - time to go back in.
