Question: Hi doc , my 3 years old daughter is suffering from severe cough with expectoration. Our doc has advised to use zycold and ventroline but nothing happened then we tried another doc and he advised cepodam and plankouf d. But plankouf d is for dry cough whereas she has cough with expectoration. So should we give her cepodam along with kofelet from himalays.

Brief Answer:
I would recommend a bronchodilator

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Cough with lit of secretions, no fever and non response to the drugs which your daughter has taken is most likely due to airway spasms and hyper responsiveness. This usually happens due to allergic tendency or viral infections in most cases.

I see such cases routinely in my clinical practice and recommend the following measures to help:

1. Start bronchodilator such as Syp. Bricanyl (Terbutaline) or Syp. Levolin to relieve the spasms.

2. Give an antihistamine such as Chlorpheniramine. You may give Planecof d as advised.

3. Give Azithromycin instead of cepodem as it is better in controlling atypical bacterial infections leading to such episodes.

4. Plenty of fluids, good nutrition and warm soups are useful.

5. Try to identify allergens in her surroundings if possible and avoid them.

6. Use a room humidifier while sleeping if the weather is dry.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

Take care
