Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Pain

Question: Hello. For several weeks, I have awoken with back pain, either on my left side hip, or in the L4/L5 area. I usually have top walk around for 15 minutes or so and the pain subsides and eventually passes. While I would normally pass this off as a musculoskeletal condition and also being 65 years old, my concern is statistically I have been told I have a 15 to 20% chance of having prostate cancer. For the last seven years my PSA has been bouncing between 3 and 4, and the free PSA has only been in the upper teens. If the back pain is cancer related, would it go away so quickly? Thank you.

Hello dear.
I have gone through the details and i understand your concern.

So as the age increases, the psa value for an individual also increases and a value of less than 4 is absolutely normal at your age.
Pain of cancer is a constant dull aching pain due to the involvement of bones of spine and nerves and it wont go away with exercises. I dont see any reason for you as having a strong suspicion of cancer of prostate.
In my opinion , more common causes like lumbar spondylosis, or prolapsed disc should be looked for. An MRI is warranted and you can go for it.
