Question: Just left an Immed Care after being evaluated for right lower back pain, couldnt bend over, sit or stand for long. UA showed blood and protein. KUB normal

I was concerned it might be more than diagnosed pylonephritis. Pain severe. Prescribed Cipro and Zofran - given IM Toradol

Brief Answer:
PN goes undetected on ultrasound KUB; other causes can be ruled out now

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The ultrasound KUB has helped ruled out conditions like renal tract obstructions, stones, etc; and as you may have been informed: pyelonephritis goes undetected on an ultrasound as the changes occurring with pyelonephritis are not seen on an ultrasound.

So in your case, the diagnosed pyelonephritis could indeed be the correct diagnosis leaving no room for the question of another possible diagnosis. Cipro and zofran should suffice at this juncture to help treat the infections ma'am. But if the pain is severe, then avoid self-medicating with pain management medication and abide by the regimen prescribed by your doctor.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
