Suggest Treatment For Red Swollen Meatus
Question: Hi, I am 27 yrs old and having a swollen meatus which is red and swollen since last week. I get irritated when it touches my inner wear particularly when erect..I have not had any sexual encounter since a year now.. I do get a pinching feeling sometimes. Please suggest the cure..thanks a lot..

Swollen meatus could be due to lower urinary tract infection, like urethritis .The infection at not related to sexual intercourse.
A short course of antibiotics will help.
I generally recommend to my patients oral tablets of azithromycin and topical flagyl gel.This will help to cure the condition. Please check with your doctor if he shares my view and if can prescribe them to you.
Investigative work up is needed only if the symptoms does not resolve after 1week.

Thanks..is this a serious condition? Will there be any affect on my lifestyle or sexual relationships? I read its not common for people of my age. Also, i am not having any pain during urination but i do wake up during night to urinate lately..please share your view. Thanks.
