Suggest Treatment For Red Itchy Marks On Skin

Posted on Tue, 10 Nov 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,

My skin becomes red, itchy and gets some marks on it, if there is any kind of pressure applied (somebody holding my hand, if I am holding something, etc,.) on it.

I don't see any rashes. I feel it is from the inside and not the skin.

If I take a dose of Cetirizine Hydrochloride tablet of 5mg, I would feel better for 1 or 2 days. Then again my skin gets red and itchy..

What might be the reason.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Possible Pressure Urticaria.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

I can certainly understand your concerns.

As per your symptoms you possibly seem to have Pressure Urticaria.

Exposure to undue skin pressure can precipitate such skin rash.

You seem to have a chronic disease with a good response to antihistamines like Cetrizine.

The best way of preventing such rash is to avoid all precipitating factors that bring it.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

But after 1 or 2 days of having a Cetrizine, when the effect gets over, it again starts to get red and feels to have burning sensation, even if there is no pressure applied on my skin/body. How would I avoid that?

More over there is no rash on my skin.. It feels to be something from the inside of skin .

Brief Answer:
Possible dysesthesia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

I can certainly understand your concern.

I apologize for the delayed response.

You possibly seem to have altered skin sensation.

This could be due to altered nerve conduction in the skin.

I advise you to get a complete thyroid profile.

Meanwhile a short course of oral drugs like pregabali will help.

Please check with your physician if he can prescribe these drtugs to you.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

As I mentioned in my first comment, I had completed a full Thyroid Test. The doctor told me that it is normal. Do I need to again go for a thyroid test?

Complete thyroid profile includes the following.

2.Total t3 and t4.
3.tsh.
4.fti-free thyroxine index.

This can give a complete picture.

Thank you.

Thank you Doctor.

If I need to go to a specialist, whom should I approach. Should it be a general physician or any other specialist?

Please advice.
