Posted on Wed, 21 Dec 2016
Question: I am 56 and started dealing with prostatitis about a year ago. Went to doctor and had urine test and it showed nothing. Also had prostate exam witch he said it seemed slightly enlarged and spongy. Did 30 days of Cipro and had no more problems for about for or five months. Went back did another urine test and showed nothing again was put on Flomax. That was about two months ago. If seems better but still flares up from time to time. Never have a problem with stream just a little pressure in that area. Thoughts?

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Are you on Flomax now ? If yes, what dosage are you on ?

Have you got an Ultrasound scan done any time in recent past. If yes, please share the report.

Also, when was the last rectal examination done ?

Brief Answer:
Get an Ultrasound scan done

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Sorry for the delay in my response.

I suggest you to get a Ultrasound of the pelvis, this helps in knowing the volume of the prostate gland. Based on the volume of the gland a condition called Benign Prostatic hypertrophy BPH can be ruled out. It is in BPH one gets recurrent symptoms ones like you have.

The above scan may also be coupled with estimation of testosterone levels. Testosterone levels drop after the age of 60 which is the cause for BPH.
