Suggest Treatment For Rashes On Body

Question: Hi doctor. My baby is 5 months old and developes redish rashes all over his body. The episodes are quite frequent, about twise a week. Infact some base line rash is always observed. When rashes diminish, the affected area shows white patch. His skin is also itchy and dry. Is this normal? Will this get cured automatically? Hiw much time this may take? Please guide

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

From your description it looks like your child has possibly atopic dermatitis
Do send some photos for confirmation.
Atopic dermatitis is common at this age.
I usually prescribe moisturiser like dermadew to be applied after bath twice daily
This will prevent skin drying and rash.
You need to try mild local steroids as ointments for a short course and maintain the healing with moisturiser.

Food allergies can be identified by special food specific IgE levels. This helps to avoid triggers for atopic dermatitis.
