Suggest Treatment For Rashes Around Nipple Tattoo
Question: Hi, I had nipple reconstruction after double mastectomy and I got my areole tattoo last week. I now have a rash about 1 1/2 inches in diameter around the nipple tattoo. The rash is red patches of dry skin and looks similar to dermatitis. Is this normal? Should I be putting the prescribed bacitracin ointment on the rash as well as the tattoo?

I read your question and i understand your concer. With reconstruction surgery and recent tattooing of areola this rash could be a pre infection phase of mastitis or a mere skin response to tattoo ink and needle in guise of dermatitis.
Apply bacitracin ointment, maintain clean and hygienic breast environment, wear cototn bras and avoid sweating. Keep an eye over the temperature of the body and also on the color change or any swelling or tenderness development over the rash site.
Prophylactic use of antibiotics would also be wise to prevent mastitis or per se breast abscess common complication in such tattooings.
Nutshell, good hygiene and application of topical antibiotics and monitoring for a while and wait and see policy. If the symptoms persist despite conservative care talk to your doctor and let them have a look.
