Suggest Treatment For Rash Due To Sunburn

Posted on Tue, 4 Aug 2015
Question: My nephews and niece are visiting us this week at the beach. The boys are twins, 15.5 years old. Both of the boys have slight sun burn from being at the beach today but one of them appears to have a rash. Can you please identify what could be causing this? It doesn't look like a heat rash. He feels normal, not complaining of anything but the rash is concerning.

Brief Answer:
sunburn

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern.

I reviewed the pictures.

He seems to be having a rash secondary to the sunburn. Its a classical redness that we observe when a person has been out in the sun for too long.

I would recommend application of cortisone lotion mixed with an antibiotic cream like Mupirocin cream on the affected area twice a day for around 10 days. This would be able to improve the rash. Also I would recommend that he take an anti histamine like levocetrizine once at night to take care of the inflammation.

The rash should start resolving in a couple of days.

Please let me know if you have any queries. Take care

Brief Answer:
not bacterial infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for your reply.

It doesn't seem to be a bacterial infection at this stage. Hence right now I don't think an antibiotic needs to be started. But in case it doesn't start improving within 2 days i would request you to send me a picture again for me to review n reconsider.

Take care
