Suggest Treatment For Psoriasis

Question: I am a 43 year old male and have had psoriasis since I was 12. Mostly on my hands and feet. Two years ago it started on my back arms and shoulders. Lotions and creams help and I also use hidrocortizone every once in a while. Should I also be thinking of using pills like cosentix ?

Brief Answer:
Yes, Cosentyx is an option for moderate to severe plaque psoroasis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar (dermatologist).
I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.
Systemic treatment with biologicals is an option for moderate to severe plaques psoriasis which is no more amenable to topical treatment alone. Therefore, systemic treatment either with cosentyx or with one or more (sequentially or in combination) of the other systemic treatment options e.g methotrexate, acitretin, phototherapy and/ or biologicals (other than cosentyx e.g humira, infliximab etc) can be considered for your psoriasis. I suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for the needful.

Brief Answer:
Psoriatic arthritis can be associated with skin disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Psoriatic arthritis can involve joints of patients with skin involvement with psoriasis. Its risk is estimated at about 30% to 40% in patients with plaque psoriasis.
Psoriasis patients also have a slightly higher risk of metabolic syndrome (i.e obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and hypertension) and heart disease i.e myocardial infraction.
