Suggest Treatment For Pressure In The Ear While On Antibiotics For Eye Infection

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Oct 2016
Question: I've had an eye infection for a while now, left eye mostly. Opthamologist prescribed a antibiotic and steroid eye drop that gives temporary relief but doesn't fix the problem. Yesterday I started getting pressure in my left ear and hearing loss. This morning I wake up the room is spinning. I have a couple of oranges and sonme water and now I feel nausea and cold sweats. Is it all connected?

Brief Answer:
Middle or inner ear infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health question.

I read your query and I understand your concern.

I don't think it is all connected.
The eye problem it is another issue, not related with the ear problem. The infection in one eye it is generally bacterial, so I agree with your doctor recommendation and treatment you are taking. It just needs a lot of time to heal.

About the ear, seem like you are having a Labyrinthitis which is an inner ear infection (the spinning room its a characteristic of the inner ear getting affected). But at the same time it may be a middle ear (the pressure and hearing loss) which it is affecting the inner ear as well. To make the difference and to determine the treatment, you will need an ear examination.

If it is middle ear infection or both, you can use a treatment with antibiotics.
If it is an inner ear infection, in general those are viral and you will need to use just Betahistine or Cinnarizine which are used for the symptoms, but the viral infection will heal by itself.

I hope I answered your questions with the information I have.
