Question: My sis completed chemo for Hodgkins Disease 5 moths ago was doing well beginning to get her wt back . Suddenly she is unable to eat--have lost close to 15 lbs with a small frame, no energy, no appetite, can't keep food down, weak and fatigued Diagnosed with hyperthyroidism but she is almost skeletal, how will she survive..went to ER--she had shortness of breath--was given IVs and sent home--advised to see an endocrinologist. How will she survive until without being able to eat and for the ER not to admit her--what can I do.. No one is trying to help her.. I'm so distraught and scared for her..I 'm a thousand mi away. PLS HELP

Brief Answer:
hello dear. a few days of admission will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Welcome to HCM. From your details it looks like as she is really very sick. She requires antithyroid drugs or radioactive iodine treatment to control hyperthyroid state, otherwise her weight will not increase.
She also requires further evaluation for disease state in the form of petct. I will strongly recommend you visit her treating doctor and discuss about her condition.

Thanks and regards

Thank you for your response Dr. Sundryial. The ultrasound showed an inflamed thyroid. What disturbs me is that with this new medicine/hospital admissions procedures in the State of GA your private dr can not autorize admissions and any jerk in ER can determine who should be admitted. What is a petct..is that a pet scan?

Brief Answer:
hello dear. you need to cook up some history

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I understand your concern. You need to cook up some history like she is having breathing difficulty, diarrhea or profound weakness even if it is not there as all these symptoms are consistent with hyperthyroidism. Or like severe episodes of palpitations with impending doom. It will certainly help.
Yes petct is a pet ct scan.
