Question: Hello
I had a sore throat for a week. It was getting really really painful, only on one side. I was not really sick otherwise. No dripping nose or flu symptoms. Got to the point where i could not swallow my saliva without beeing in extreme pain. Went to doctor which did a cotton pin scrub of the one tonsil which was hurting. Said no bacterial stuff there. Still. Had the symptoms of bacterial. Did crp blood from finger and was ok they Said. Å Day later i Went to ER and he did a crp too. It was up to 25. Which was not very high he Said but gave me antibiotics anyway.
That was late so no farmacy Open. Suddenly i felt i got Even more fever and simuntaniously the pain sort of calmed down a bit. Next morning i could swallow again. No there is no pain exept when i yawn. I feel it further down from tonsil kind of. So i never took antibiotics
However. It really sounds like bacterial like streptokokk infection to me. Even the lymph on outside of throat was very tender.
So question is. I still got a small amount of fever. And a bit dicomfort when yawning. Strep is scary and can onviously come back after some days and Perhaps attack heart. I have had some irregular heartbeats. But im used to that. And elevated puls one of the days when it was bad pain. Should i take the meds now Even if i dont have the pain? Could it be strep Even if the scrub test did not show it? I did cough a little slime but not alot. That was what i thought all along: feeling like i got a fever but why am i not getting a flu or get sick? And then the throat came. And that was really it. Fever and throat.

Brief Answer:
No need to take any more drugs!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed your information fully and found no reason why you were prescribed antibiotics. I am sure the doctors were being overly cautious and that is why you got the antibiotics. Your symptoms are suggestive of a viral pharyngitis and the lymph nodes are in line with this. A Negative streptococci test is even more supportive of the absence of a bacterial infection.

My advise is that you take no antibiotics. Continue with pains medications: Tylenol, Ibuprofen. Fruits, Fluids, vegetables, rest and moderate physical exercise will help accelerate recovery. There is no reason getting bothered by this. Your heart is good and no symptoms would return as this is no case of strep sore throat. Even with strep sore throat, only a minor proportion do go on to develop any heart/joint related complications.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
