Brief Answer:
Such infections are usually viral in nature

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Most often cough or respiratory infections in children are caused due to certain viruses. Fluctuations and reduction in temperature usually increased the propensity of catching such infections. Some children are more prone than others in catching such infections. Such infections usually have an allergic component associated. Hence the weather in XXXXXXX as well as allergic reactions have a role to play.

Antibiotics are ineffective in viral infections and although some doctors like to play safe and prescribe antibiotics like Augpen HS, they are not routinely required and might eliminate superadded bacterial infection, if any, but have no effect on the underlying viral infection and that could be the reason of the cough coming back again thereafter. I would suggest you to use Montral on and off as required. Be sure to give steam inhalation. Water in form of vapour goes deep inside and helps in diluting the thick mucus (which would otherwise have needed to be coughed out) and would thereby provide relief. That could also reduce the throat irritation and thereby reduce the propensity of puking.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask back in case of further queries if any.

Regards
