Brief Answer:
What cough syrup are you on? Do you cough up phlegm or it is dry cough?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this persistent cough and all the sleep disruptions this has caused you. I will like to know what medication you are taking for the cough and whether you produce mucus or not? If there is any other medication that you are currently on, please do let me know as well.

Is this cough present all the times or it gets worse when you go to bed? Do you have the urge to clear your throat all the times? Do you have any sensation of a forging body in the throat or burring in the chest? These answers would help me narrow down the list of possible causes and provide a personalized and helpful response to you.

Normally, cough would take a few days to clear up totally after the antibiotics. However, I don’t expect it to disrupt sleep. The dilemma here is that coughing helps clear germs away from the airways and suppressing it is not always the easy way out. This is why I am hesitant recommending a cough suppressant to do so without stronger evidence that this is the last available option left to help you out.

I hope to hear from you and would provide more responses and helpful recommendations. Until next, I wish you well.

Brief Answer:
I will suggest you try omeprazole...This is suggestive of acid reflux!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up information.

Your symptoms are suggestive of acid reflux. I will suggest you use omeprazole to see what impact this would have. Also, avoid fatty meals, eating close to bed time and going to bed soon or leaning forward soon after meals.

Take omeprazole at doses recommended by your pharmacist. We should be able to see an improvement soon after starting this drug. Start it and let me know whether you are improving or not.

I hope this helps. Until next, I wish you well.
