Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, Welcome to HCM..

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Constipation for one week can certainly cause a lot of bloating and an enormous amount of discomfort..

Please let me know since when you've started taking Gabapentin, as it's a quite common side effect of this medication..

The red marks have to be evaluated in details, it can even be an allergic response to gabapentin also.. is there any itching ? any swelling over face/lips ?

I'd advice you to strictly observe the discoloration and if you see it anywhere else over your body, any excessive itching, difficulty in swallowing, breathing difficulty- then please call the emergency medical services for an immediate look at it for a prompt management..

Meanwhile please hold the next dose of gabapentin and please inform your treating doctor regarding these..

Let me know if there's any further queries, i'd be glad to clarify..

Take Care
Kind Regards

I've been taking Gabapentin for about 6 weeks and have not had any allergic reactions. I have a few other red spots on my stomach (right side) and on my back, same side. The red spot on the front is sensitive to touch, does not itch. I've not had any difficulty in swallowing, breathing, etc. The red spot on the front that's most sensitive is right below my rib cage so I'm thinking the pain my be associated with the stomach being bloated due to my constipation. These additional red spots have just shown up in the last 24 hours.

thanks for the clarification..

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back Dear,

Thanks for all these clarifications, now the picture's a bit clear..

Since your on gabapentin for 6 weeks then it's not likely due to this..however those red spots and the abdominal bloating seems two separate issues..

If possible then please take a few pictures and upload them at the reports section so that i can have a closure look at it.

Yes excessive bloating can certainly cause pain, can you please tell me when was the last time you've passed motion and how was it ?

Is there any nausea/vomiting or any other problems ?

Are you able to pass flatus ? - if the answer is yes and there's no vomiting then you can safely try P.C.Enema or simple salt water enema, the bowel will get cleared and after that you can take Lactulose syrup 10-15 ml at bedtime daily, it'll maintain stool frequency on a daily basis..

Those red spots can be bug bites/leaky capillaries or even may be fungal infection, for exact nature of the cause, a detailed physical examination is needed by your Doctor/a Dermatologist who'll evaluate it clinically..

Let me know if there's any queries, i'd be glad to clarify..

Kind Regards

I started taking yesterday miralax and that's about the same time these hives started so after looking online it appears that this is one of the potential side effects of this drug; online it said to try an antihistamine so I took one earlier and am hoping the rash/blisters calm down. I haven't had a bowel movement for around 5 to 6 days. I've dramatically dialed up my fiber through my diet so am in hope that that helps. I have been able to pass flatus just recently but no bowel movement. I have a Dr's appointment scheduled for Friday morning so am hopeful I can find a remedy then. I'll do some research on the two potential enemas you mention above as well as the lactulose syrup nightly. thanks

Brief Answer:
enema will be helpful in your case..

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back dear,

Thanks for following up..

Well this is new information for me as you haven't told me earlier regarding Miralax..

By virtue of medicine, allergic response is almost an universal complication of most of the medications and one has to remain alert if taking any new substance/medications, so good to know that you've identified it timely and already taken the antihistamine..do continue the antihistamine once/twice daily for the next 2-3 days, hopefully it'll subside with it..

But if you notice new onset hives or any of those alarming symptoms which I've explained in my previous answer, then do not hesitate to seek urgent medical care for a prompt and aggressive management..

Ideally speaking, high fiber diet is fine, but when a person hasn't passed motion for 5-6 days, enema is the first measure of choice for a complete evacuation..

Later on you can continue and titrate dosage of Lactulose syrup depending on your bowel activities as I've already mentioned earlier..

Don't worry, after bowel clearance, you'll be able to feel the bowel movements again..

Yes, good that the doctor's appointment is this Friday only, best of luck..
