Brief Answer:
take paracetamol for pain relief. improve your immunity

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX welcome to hcm and thanks for choosing us. Viral flu presents with symptoms you have like running nose, cough, joint pain etc. Patients recover from flu in a week or two, but symptoms like joint pain and some soreness in throat remains for long time like for months as has happened in your case.

So your joint pain will disappear gradually. You can take pain killers (lighter ones like paracetamol) for relief.

Flu affects body immunity significantly. This reduced immunity is responsible for your throat symptoms now. These tiny droplets are infected spots. These are secondary bacterial infections which is very common after flu attack. It generally doesn't require treatment as it will be mild in intensity. You need to eat balanced food. Increase quantity of fruits and green vegetables to improve immunity. If it becomes severe like gives you fever, pain during swallowing, you will require a course of antibiotic(penicillin or macrolide group) for five days.

I hope my reply will benefit you. Please write to HCM or me for follow up queries. I wish you good health and permanent recovery. Regards

Would the swelling in the ankles for 2 weeks be a symptom ? Also had some skin reaction on the palm of hands that is clearing up after 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
ankle can be involved in flu. get dermatologist opinion for hand.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX welcome again. Thanks for follow up question. Ankle swelling can be there with viral flu. If your both ankles are swollen and swelling started few days after flu attack and now subsiding as flu has subsided, it is due to flu only. However if you have only one ankle swollen or only one joint swollen with history of injury, it can be due to some other issue.

Similarly I would like to know about the involvement of other hand too. The picture you have sent looks like some fungal infection. I would like to know if you have itching, involvement of other hand or any other organ, duration of symptoms, whether started with flu or before that . Kindly write again with these details. Else get it examined by dermatologist as dermatologist opinion will be required for final diagnosis and treatment.

Ihope my reply will benefit you. Please feel free to write follow up queries. Thanks

It started 8 weeks ago with hot sweats
7 weeks ago the cough started
6 weeks ago ankles swelled u and spots on both hands came up originally as little blisters- also very small splinter hemmorages on fingernails.
4 weeks ago swelling went down completely, cought started to go away & spots started to go away but pain in ankle persists.
Blood test showed all blood results normal range.
2 weeks ago ecg & ultrasound of heart - all ok + no murmer
Last week - all symptoms disappearing and feel good but noticed tiny flap of extra skin in the form of a water bubble as an extention of the uvula.
So confused, some say endocardosis but tests reveal nothing. Blood cultures due back this week. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
wait for blood culture. meet ent expert

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX welcome again. History of progress of your symptoms suggests that all these are related to your flu attack. All symptoms have started after flu attack and are subsiding as flu has subsided. Ankle pain (any joint or bone involvement) always takes more time to recover. If it is troubling you much, you can get a x ray and orthopaedic expert's opinion. Else wait for few more weeks and keep taking painkillers.

Regarding water bubble on uvula, it can be a infected spot. Infections, specially bacterial are common after flu attack, because flu attack reduces immunity. You can visit ENT expert for confirmation.

Deep seated infections in mouth (tonsils, teeth, cheek) can cause endocardosis. But it can be detected by blood culture. You would have got fever, heart rhythm disturbances, murmurs if endocardosis was there( you dont have either of these)So chances are less, but let blood culture report come.

I hope this reply will help you. Please feel free to ask follow up queries. I wish you good health. Thanks. Regards
