Suggest Treatment For Painful Lump On The Side Of The Neck

Question: I recently had carotid arteries scanned. Now have a painful lump on side of neck and it feels like it moved. Now closer to my ear. About size of nickel and oval.
Is it a problem I need emergency room for or can it wait til morning?

The lump was just found tonight. The ultrasounds were done because I experienced irregular heart beat and increased blood pressure. Light headed and nausea also. Weight same even though not always eating. Sweats and anxiety recently also. No known cancer or other diseases.

Hello again.

The onset is acute so it doesn't signify a malignant cause. Most likely its reactive lymphadenopathy in response to a viral or bacterial infection. The throat, ear and sinuses can be examined to look for possible focus of infection. Antibiotics can be advised if indicated. For the time being, NSAIDs like ibuprofen can be used to counter the associated inflammation/pain. Most likely it will resolve within 2 weeks. If it persists then an excisional biopsy of the lump can be planned for histopathology, in consult with your doctor.
