Question: I have a large painful haematoma on my hip after a fall nearly three weeks ago. I cannot walk well and the area seems to be growing. I don't know whether to rest it or exercise it. it gets much more painful if I walk around too much

Brief Answer:
Rest is advisable more as compared to exercises and walking.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query

After going through your query I came to know that you got injury to your hip 3 weeks ago and you got painful hematoma. You are using hirudoid cream for a week but it didn,t help. For pain relief analgesic (you are already taking naprosyn) can be taken .

If you has no fever, then no need to worry much. Hematoma gradually resolved by itself. Rest is advisable more as compared to exercises and walking. If by consistency it is felt as fluid in nature then it may need aspiration by wide bore needle under aseptic condition by Doctor. You can discuss with your Doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any further questions then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.

After my previous question I had an ultra sound scan of my haematoma and the next day it was aspirated. Which gave me some relief and the haematoma is now half the size. However I am still suffering quite severe pain in my groin and around the back of my leg just below the buttocks. Although two X-rays showed no broken bones is it possible I have damaged some part of my hip. What do you suggest I should do?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely hip joint injury, Rest will be useful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back

After going through your query and follow up query, I understand that you got relief by aspiration of your Hematoma. You got partial relief and Hematoma reduced in size. Your x ray shows no bony injury. You are worried about damage to Hip.

It is unlikely to have hip damage. You are likely to benefit from rest, walking should be avoided. You can take analgesics (you are already taking). You can take antibiotics to prevent hematoma from getting infected. After 10 days, if hematoma refill you may need re aspiration. You can discuss with your Doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help. If you have no clarification then you can close the query and rate the answer.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
