Suggest Treatment For Painful And Growing Lump In Armpit

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Dec 2014
Question: I am a 20 year-old female who recently a Pineal Cystic Tumor removed from my pineal gland in a very successful endoscopic brain surgery. I noticed a lump in my left armpit a couple months before this surgery in April 2014, but did not think anything. Starting in July or August, it became painful and started growing. I went to my doctor for it last week and she ordered an arm/underarm ultrasound to rule out anything. I got the report late last night and won't be in contact with my doctor until Monday. I know a biopsy is needed to know for sure, but what does it sound like to you? The report says the following:
"There is a hypoechoic sharply marginated nodular density measuring 9mm in greatest dimension in the subcutaneous soft tissues. There is a slight somewhat triangular indentation of slightly more echogenic fat in the superior posterior aspects of the structure. There is no evidence of hypervascularity. The remainder of the area looks unremarkable."

Brief Answer:
Lymph node swelling likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
From the ultrasound findings it is likely to be a lymph node swelling or a benign cyst. Since there is no sign of hypervascularity it is likely to be a benign swelling. It can get enlarged in response to an infection or allergy in the local area.
FNAC will help in confirmation of diagnosis. You can do a hot fomentation in the area in case it is painful.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
