default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: Hi. By the end of each day, I have radiating pain starting at the base of my neck, to my shoulder which continues to travel down my arm and to chest muscles on my right side. When I wake up in the mornings, I have no pain. I have tried stretching, ibprophen, etc. What could be causing this?

muscle pains and spasms and their management

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.
Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Siddiq-ul-abidin. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Based on the brief history, that you have discussed, their are multiple possibilities which can lead to such symptoms, though i need to assure you that none of those is serious enough that it can't be reversed.

Your arms are supplied by network of nerves,
that arise from vertebral column in lower neck, where any disc slip or strain compresses over that fine network and can cause such symptoms which can radiate to both arms. Also the areas in upper chest and muscles are supplied by many of the same nerves. So pain can be felt there. For such condition a neck radiograph would be conclusive to suggest alot. If it turns out to be the same issue, then use of neck collar and use of muscle relaxants like orphenidrine or tizanidine is helpful along with acetaminophen.

Also trivial imbalances between certain minerals and vitamins like D3, B12, Calcium and folic acid can present with such symptoms. You can confirm that by running blood tests to confirm there levels and then replacing them with supplements containing these.

Also since, it is summer, so try drinking plentifull of water and fluids to avoid muscles dehydration.

Visiting a physiotherapist to discuss suitable exercises and manevours can also be helpful.

I hope this answered your question. If you have more queries I am happy to answer.Otherwise close the discussion and rate my responces.

Regrads.
