Question: HI I was diagnosed with a concussion last week but actually did it about a month ago. My headaches have been better but today I had a bad pain in the corner of my forehead where my sinus es are. I do get bad sinus headaches. I did have a CAT scam and it was okay. Do you think this pain is sinus or has to do with the consussin?

Brief Answer:
Sinus headaches are highly OVERDIAGNOSED

Detailed Answer:
If a CT fails to show ACUTE congestion of sinuses then, "sinus headache" is an incorrect diagnosis. It is believed that TRUE sinus headaches comprise only 0.5% of all headaches that are diagnosed. Yet, it is one the MOST commonly diagnosed headaches...in some circles..even more commonly than migraines or tension headaches. Therefore, from what you describe and given your history I believe it is much more likely than not that your headaches are part of the TBI you suffered as part of what is likely a post-concussion syndrome.

PCS patients resolve slowly in terms of headaches. They can take weeks to months and in some cases up to several years to fully remit. Be cautious about how you handle or treat the pain. Do not OVERUSE analgesics...even if prescribed. This can lead to worse intensity and more frequent headaches as part of a rebound phenomenon which then, takes all sorts of effort, time, and money to sort out. If you're not a "headachy" person to begin with prior to this concussion then, you really don't want to get bogged down with chronic daily headaches of the rebound variety.
