Suggest Treatment For Pain In Groin Area After Working Out

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Apr 2015
Question: I was doing a walking, weighted lunge movement and seem to have hurt myself. I was in the middle of a set, doing a right leg lunge with weight, and felt a pain in my groin area. Afterwards, I had a dull pain in my left testicle for several days. Alleve seemed to help and it got better after about 4-5 days of resting. Since I'm a stubborn exercise-aholic, I started going on day 6 and sure enough now it hurts again. It is not a terrible pain, there is no bulging feeling anywhere. It seems to be pretty specific to my left testicle and a bit around my upper left pubic area sometimes (slightly). I have never had any kind of injury like this or hernia in the past. I am 34 years old, but in the best shape of my life. However, I have been lifting very heavy lately trying to push my limits. Any help would be much appreciated. I was encouraged how quickly it felt better and better, but now a bit worried that it is hurting again after lifting at the gym this evening. I appreciate any guidance.

Brief Answer:
It can be a muscle pull

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think you might be having either groin pull or testicular torsion. I would suggest you to get ultrasound examination to confirm the diagnosis. Some time there can be hernia due to sudden weight lifting or exercise. This can also be rule out through this test.
After ultrasound and confirming your diagnosis you can follow these steps.
1.If only muscle pull then Rest and hot water fomentation.
2.Volitran ointment local application.
3.Avoid any weight lifting.
4.If there is hernia than it might need surgery.
5.If testicular torsion is present, than it might need manipulation.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Thank you for your response. I am hopeful it is not a hernia or anything serious. The first appointment available with a sports medicine doctor is Friday morning. You mentioned "Volitran" ointment above, did you mean "Voltaren" gel as that is the closest spelling I have found? Also, if it is a pulled muscle, how long do you suggest I take a break from exercise?

Brief Answer:
You need to avoid exercise for one month

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Voltaren ointment is same as Volitran. It is for muscle pain. It should be applied after hot water fomentation. You should also avoid exercises for one to one and half month.
Let me know what your doctor says to you. I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
