Suggest Treatment For Pain At The Tip Of The Penis

Question: I started experiencing pain at the tip of my penis a week ago. 6 days prior from when the pain started I recieved unprotected oral from a male. My gp swabbed my urethra and gave me a urine culture. Both test results were negative. My gp also prescribed my 7 days of doxycycline twice a day. I'm currently on day 6 of the antibiotics and I still have a little urethral tip irritation and redness. Should I be worried or will this go away with time?

Brief Answer:
A STD needs to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can fully understand your concern.

In your case,if you've no other medical illness, the redness shouldn't be there.
A STD has to be ruled out.
You'll need to do certain tests,to decide cause of symptoms. They are :
1. blood routine,VDRL,HbsAg,HIV,RBS and LFT.

If you can send a photo of the tip of penis,it will be useful for an expert opinion.
Kindly send a copy of the reports, along with the photo.

To relieve the urethral tip irritation, apply Neosporin or Betadine ointment locally.
Avoid any sexual activity, till complete relief of symptoms.
Drink about two liters fluids daily.

Wish you well.

So no HIV, Hep B,diabetes, liver function is fine, only test I haven't had is syphilis. But my symptoms also included slight burning upon urination. So you are saying that nsu/ngu would not be a factor. Also do symptoms last a while after treatment of an NGU/NSU?

Brief Answer:
NGU/ NSU symptoms persist about two weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

You'll need to show the reports of STD panel. You didn't mention, they've been done.
Only tests done in your query were, urine culture and urethral swab test.

Gonorrhoea can be detected by the swab test,or else, one has to go for PCR test.
As swab test is negative,i didn't suggest test for Syphillis.

Doxycline combined with Ceftriaxone would've been a good option,in your case.
Maintain good penile hygiene.
Avoid moisture over the penis.

NGU/ NSU urethritis with symptoms of burning at tip of penis, lasts 2 weeks.
This is true for the majority cases, even after treatment.

Wish you well.
