Suggest Treatment For Nasal Polyps And Difficulty Taking Deep Breaths

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Mar 2017
Question: I have nasal polyps and have struggled to breathe since last may. I struggle to breathe deep and I breathe loud. I have had heart and lung tests, nothing found. Not anxiety related either. Can nasal polyps cause these symptoms and does it require general anesthetic to remove them

I am a mouth breather

I no longer have asthma. I am misunderstanding, just clarifying. I have troubles getting a deep breath with my mouth and I breathe loudly through my mouth. Can this be caused by nasal polyps? Thanks for your previous answer, very helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for your reply and making clear about your symptom that you are suffering from loud breath noise while breathing through mouth.

You might be suffering from Stertor. Stertor is noisy breathing when inhaling; it is a low-pitched, snoring sound that usually arises from the airway blockage in the nose or throat (pharynx).

Blockage in the airway tract of throat might be due to excessive tissue lining of the throat (also known as redundant phayngeal mucosal fold), enlargement of the tongue etc.

Sometimes, the nasal secretions may get passed back in the throat (posterior nasal drip) leading to oedema of the lining of the throat, which may lead to loud breath.

It would be advisable to have examination of your throat to find out any area of narrowing in your throat leading to loud breathing.

Hope this answers your query.
Take care
